Before we get started with the Artist Profile--we take a moment to acknowledge the recent passing of Dr. Bambade Shakoor-Abdullah. Dr. Bambade was a pillar of the Chicago Muslim community. She was a tireless anti-violence advocate, educator, and a major part of the intra-faith efforts of the Chicagoland Muslim Community.
In this edition of Radio Islam we talk with Chicago-based singer/songwriter/actress/plus-size model Zuri Salahuddin. Some of the things we talked about were:her inspirations, how being a Muslim impacts her work, and challenges of being an artist in Chicago.
In addition to singing a great original song, Zuri also took on the challenge of singing a song by any singer named; she succeeded, going 4 for 4---including a great cover of Jill Scott's "He loves me (Lyzel in E flat)." You can follow Zuri on instagram @zuri_luv
