EA Review: Abstrakt Sonance - Forsaken Ritual EP [SSV002]
SSV002’s title track, “Forsaken Ritual”, begins with an ethereal guitar sample that quickly is given the Abstrakt Sonance treatment. Utilizing similar techniques as in “Bamboo”, reverb is used to produce ambient vocals along with the sensation of wisping air. Analogous stringed instruments to the ones found in “Deep In Thought” are also used to blur the lines between one song and the next. “Forsaken Ritual” then takes a darker turn at its drop with heavily distorted 808s and hard-hitting bass. Abstrakt Sonance continues to engage in sonic sorcery as the song’s mood skates back and forth between pangs of desolation and swells of empowerment. Brief moments of calm or clarity are then bombarded by wonderfully unapologetic 808s until reaching the precipice of “Forsaken Ritual”. In its final half, the track drifts off into a surreal world more peaceful than purgatory and more ominous than dreamlike.
