EA Review: Chad Dubz & Quasar - Fantomatique / Vox Dub [FAVX005]
“Vox Dub”. Drawing upon a similar energy as “Fantomatique”, the EP concludes with a low-end slugger encapsulated in skillfully distorted ambience. From its inception, “Vox Dub” takes a less aggressive approach to an equally appetizing style of 140 bpm. Chad Dubz & Quasar’s technicality shines through the murky depths of this post-apocalyptic tune. Showing off their vocoder-style sound design, the song’s title reveals its origin more and more with each progression. The contrast created between atonal and melodic elements of “Vox Dub” reveals a musical tenacity that assuredly comes from a great deal of experience. This is illustrated via haunting drones and foreboding pads which are complimented by drawn out reverb and tasteful delays. Purposeful and intricate drum patterns result in a subtle yet powerful flow that guides this hypnotic tune to the very end. The evolution of this track is nothing short of mesmerizing as listeners are taken deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole.
