EA Review: Chief Kaya & MiKrodot - Wise Men EP [FA047]
Chief Kaya exudes the confidence of a seasoned veteran in his high energy song titled, “Pull Up”. Exemplifying their deep appreciation of hip hop, Chief Kaya finds an incendiary amalgamation of the rhythmic and melodic characteristics of both deep dubstep and contemporary rap music. Like Mikrodot, Chief Kaya excels at sample selection and curating a particular vibe through the highly specific selection of sounds. At various points, the tonal qualities of Chief Kaya’s production are teased while the refined heaviness of the bass in “Pull Up” is put on display. Throughout its duration, the tune repeatedly calls for well-deserved rewinds which is then inevitably followed by the instantly recognizable adlib from which the track got its name. With “Pull Up”, Chief Kaya’s style of incorporating progressing basslines and catchy melodies with a 140 lens is nothing short of highlighted.
