EA Review: Retina - Dusted EP [FAV016]
Side B of FAV016 decides to dive further into the realm of deep dubstep with, “No Fear I”. Those who have had the privilege of hearing this song before its release are sure to recognize the sample in “No Fear I” quite fondly before being submerged in vibrations akin to radio feedback and static. These noises then transform into menacing drones that are propelled by hard hitting 808s that act as the backbone to this eerie heater. Similarly to “Dusted”, “No Fear I” feels like an appropriate soundtrack to the depths of the oceans with its use of tonal percussion and glitchy elements like one might expect to hear while on board a submarine. Despite its relatively simple song structure, the gradual distortion of the 808s, along with the creative use of rhythm, culminates into a song that is guaranteed to rattle any and all dust off of whatever system it is being played on.
