Description

Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) is a rare type of Microangiopathic Haemolytic Anaemia (MAHA). UCLH Haematology has long been a leading centre in the treatment of TTP, so we met up with a renowned authority on the subject, Professor Marie Scully, to discuss the disease.

We run through the development of this specialism at UCLH, the disease pathophysiology and current treatment options. Much of the discussion is grounded in the importance of appropriate nursing care and monitoring of the patient, at the bedside. Finally we look at how Caplacizumab is dramatically reducing hospital length of stays, and the exciting development of a recombinant ADAMTS-13 drug.
