Food and goods don't arrive on our shores by the swoosh of a magic wand, a high percentage of our imports hit our ports via busy shipping routes.
Seafarers work long hours, often below deck, in a near 'invisible world' so for this year's Sea Sunday podcast we're talking to two Apostleship of the Sea port chaplains who work hard to support the men and women that graft on the thousands of merchant vessels and cruise ships that dock in the UK.
Our studio guests are Fr Colum Kelly, port chaplain for Immingham, and Rev Roger Stone, a chaplain covering a number of ports on the south coast near Southampton.
Topics covered:
Coping with months at sea away from family and friends
What happens when tragedy strikes
The spiritual needs of the crew
Cultural challenges
The humour and positivity of the seafarers
