Abraham was sitting in the open door to his tent in the heat of the day. What was he looking for, what was he expecting? He was old and was eager to find out if the promise of his seed would really be fulfilled. He lifted up his eyes (Heb. word "nasah"), which can be understood as "seeing high". He was in a revelation-kind- of mood. He was peering beyond the natural wilderness setting of the plains of Mamre, into a supernatural realm of expectancy. Suddenly, three "men" appear under a tree. This 99 year-old patriarch bolts from his perch at the tent ... he runs to them and bows down in worship. He hastens to Sarah to put her to work in the kitchen. He bolts to select a prime calf from his herd and instructs a young man to prepare and cook it. A feast is put together for the surprise guests. Abraham has lunch with Jesus under a tree and he is suddenly transported spiritually in the NOW into The Place of Next. His destiny and the eternal providence of mankind is established in Covenant by the Word. Even so is your Place of Next established in Covenant by the Word.
