In a few words... "having a little fun".
In 1979, yes another old one, I was taxi-ing my son and two of his friends to their their first communion lessons, at the local church. On the way home, they were talking excitedly about the previous evenings TV. Specifically about a cartoon show with a wicked wizard. At home later. I began playing around on my guitar, very simple chord sequences and the words simply flowed out of me.
The Wicked Magician (March 1979)
1.The wicked Magician,
He cries in the night.
For the wrongs he has done
And the wrongs he can’t right.
The wicked Magician
Knows his way was wrong
But for power and wealth,
He was just swept along.
2.The wicked Magician,
He cries in his sleep
For the lies he has told
And the vows he can’t keep.
For we all have to pay
For the black and the white.
The good and the bad
That we do in our life.
chorus. And to us all
Comes a judgement.
If you believe in life after our death.
And to us all
Comes a choosing,
When we meet with the Lord God of wrath
