I challenged myself not to alter the sound too much but also to sound like ambient music. i wanted to accentuate the low hum and use the gradual high pitched noise as rising strings.. so it builds and builds.
track 1: in audacity, i took the first ~45 seconds (before it started screeching) boosted the bass then paulstretched x5.
track 2: cloned track 1 pitched up over 100% then had the whole sample fading in and out three times
track 3: cloned track 1 pitched up ~150% and faded in over the course of the track
this was all mixed down and some gentle hiss reduction applied
track 4: the above mix cloned run through cecilia5 loopermod for some frequency modulation and faded in through the course of the track.
