That’s why many law enforcement agencies are forming crisis squads with social workers to diffuse a volatile situation without resorting to lethal force. Detective Archibegue is part of the Mental Health Unit at Unified Police. The unit is implementing crisis intervention training for all officers and working with community partners like Odyssey House to deal with people in a mental health crisis often exacerbated by drugs like meth.
