OPENING SONGS: “My Lord, What a Morning”
WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS
OPENING PRAYER:
Eternal God, who spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways, and who has spoken to us by your Son: Open our ears and hearts by your Holy Spirit to welcome your Holy One’s words of eternal life, that we may rejoice in your rule and walk after him in your ways. Amen.
PRELUDE & LIGHTING ALTAR CANDLES “Ancient of Days”
*HYMN: “Power in the Blood”
CALL TO WORSHIP:
Leader: If we indeed cry out for insight and raise our voice for understanding—
People: If we seek wisdom like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures—
Leader: Then will we understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.
People: For the Lord gives wisdom, and from the Lord’s mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Leader: The Lord stores up sound wisdom for the upright, and is a shield to those who walk blamelessly.
People: The Lord guards the paths of justice, and preserves the way of the faithful.
HYMN: “I Love You, Lord”
PRAYER OF CONFESSION:
Holy and gracious God, in Christ all things are made new, including us. Yet, we confess that the "old self" often has more sway than the "new self" your life offers. We are plagued by fear, worry and doubt despite our new identity as your beloved children. Anger, resentment and hatred wreak havoc in our relationships, even though you are the Prince of Peace.
We are consumed with regrets, shame and guilt despite the forgiveness you freely give us. We want it to be otherwise, Lord! We want to live fully in the joy of your salvation. Through your forgiving love reconcile us to you and to one another, that we may trust in your goodness, and rest in your grace. Amen.
