Description

Catsnoria [disquiet0215-tinyrhythms]

The sounds:

1. 0.5 second ‘pluck’ generated in Audacity
2. Sound of two empty glass bottles rubbing together
3. Risset drum sound generated in Audacity
4. Sound of my late beloved little Persian cat, snoring on a warm afternoon (that’s her in the pic)
5. My old running shoe squeaking

‘Rhythm’ track made from 1+2+3, also double-tracked with delay at about 40 secs

Cat snore every ten seconds – vocals? Final one is slide-stretched.

Pulse track made from sneaker noise cloned and convoluted, also used as percussion track, fade in at 0:25 and out at 1:15

I guess I changed the sounds, just a bit. Not too much I hope.

The Assignment: Make a short track with just pin-prick audio.

Step 1: This project will require you to have five super tiny sounds, the sonic equivalent of a pin dropping. Create, find, or record those five sounds.

Step 2: Create a short, rhythmic piece of music using only those five sounds. Don’t change the sounds at all. Just use them as they are. At the start of the track have each sound play once in succession, so the listener is aware of the sounds individually before the music proceeds.

Step 3: Upload your completed track to the Disquiet Junto group on SoundCloud.

Step 4: Annotate your track with a brief explanation of your approach and process.
