There are some important differences between Stephen and the Pharisees. The first is identity versus significance. The Pharisees were caught up in roles and status, but Stephen knew he was a child of God. The second is faith versus control – there is no place for fear in the Christian heart: it’s an imposter. The third is presence versus principles. We need to make an active choice to prioritise God’s presence. When we know who we are, it changes how we live.
