Description

A ballad based on a poorly remembered story from my childhood.

Lyrics:
I was born in the granite mountains on a bed of glacial scree
where the cougar stalks its prey and the eagle screams
there the ice-cold crystal river begins its journey to the sea
through great dark brooding forests of mortal dreams

she lay in the arms of a lover, too weak to raise a tear
in a cabin touched by the breath of a winter frost
a child stood in the doorway caught ‘tween hope and fear
but the blood and the stillness speak of future lost

so where have you gone my darling, is it a place of light and warmth?
have you gone to laugh and play with your baby daughter?
I cannot hear your laughter through the noise of this silent storm
but you haunt the misty paths by the frozen water

behold a mighty river embraced by ice and snow
caught in the bitter grip of the arctic night
am I like that frozen river do I have too far to go
will I ever bask again in summer light

so where have you gone my darling, is it a place of light and warmth?
have you gone to laugh and play with your baby daughter?
I cannot hear your laughter through the noise of this silent storm
but you haunt the misty paths by the frozen water
