Description

NOTE: This episode was recorded before the recent allegations relating to Noel Clarke's history of harassment and abuse. While we maintain a distinction between Clarke and the character of Mickey Smith, we understand if anyone feels unable to hear positive things about Clarke now, and we stand with his victims. The same goes for John Barrowman, to whom there are numerous positive references in this episode, which we now regret.

In the concluding part of our look at Series One, we talk history and narrative in The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, we find nothing at all good to say about Boom Town, and we go through both the economic and the theological implications of Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways, including a discussion of the Doctor as a mythological figure and Jacob’s long-promised investigation of the Davies era’s neoliberal cynicism.
