Description

Six years ago, Cody Hermeling was crushed in a head on crash while driving on Highway 30. A reckless driver crossed the centerline while attempting to pass a mini-van, sideswiped that vehicle and lost control, slid across on coming lanes and barreled into Cody's car, a 1991 Suburu that did not have airbags. Responding officers said it was the most horrific crash they'd ever seen. They assumed Cody was dead.
The 26-year-old went through 187 pints of blood cells, platelets and plasma. He spent months in the hospital, lost his sight and required extensive facial reconstruction.
Cody and his mother, Kathleen Boniface, will host a blood drive Saturday to pay thanks to those who helped Cody survive. Please consider donating at Yur's bar and grill, 717 northwest 16th avenue, fgrom 7:30 a.m to 2 p.m. There will be three bloodmobiles and plenty of gratitude.

This is the family's sixth blood drive at Yur's Bar and Grill, a Northwest Portland establishment Hermeling owns with his dad. It's always held around Sept. 1, the day of the accident in 2010.
