Welcome to episode 138 [originally broadcast on Wednesday 4 October 2023] of #mhTV. This week Nicky Lambert, Vanessa Gilmartin and Dave Munday spoke with guest Will Smith about dignity at work.
WS: Will is a mental health nurse by background. He qualified in 1998 in Wales and moved to England in 2000. He has worked in a variety of settings which include mental health, primary care trusts, strategic health authorities, NHS England and the private sector. After leaving frontline nursing in 2005, Will went to become a Local Security Management Specialist, a role which aimed at investigating cases of violence and aggression towards staff. Will is a former magistrate and has judicial, investigative skills in conducting criminal, civil and fact finding investigations. He then worked in governance for the strategic health authority, then NHS England in independent investigations. Will has been an associate director of nursing twice, head of risk and legal services, lead for ‘new ways of working’ during the Covid-19 pandemic. He is currently working in the acute sector focussing on violence and aggression towards staff and that’s his topic of discussion today.
