Welcome to episode 63 [originally broadcast on Wednesday 22 September 2021] of #mhTV. This week Vanessa Gilmartin-Garrity and Nicky Lambert spoke with guests Keira Dovey and Natalie Greening about Nurse Lifeline.
In 2019, the vision for Nurse Lifeline was first realised - creating space for nurses, midwives, healthcare assistants and the friends and family of such staff to offload and chat with someone who *gets it*. Developed collaboratively by a small group of frontline staff united by an acute awareness of the pressures facing the workforce, Nurse Lifeline becomes the first nursing and midwifery led initiative to offer a national, free and confidential peer to peer listening service, by nurses and midwives, for nurses and midwives.
KD - Keira is an experienced nurse with a background in emergency and critical care nursing. Having 10 years experience in the charity sector and having implemented many wellbeing projects at a local level, Keira felt compelled to take action in supporting the wider nursing community through Nurse Lifeline.
NG - Natalie is a registered nurse and RAF Medical Reservist with a background in Critical Care, Natalie is Founder and Chair of Nurse Lifeline. Beginning her career in London, she has since worked overseas in resource-poor settings, most recently in a challenging humanitarian role serving the forcibly displaced Rohingya population. Natalie has witnessed the negative mental health implications for front-line staff working in high pressure environments, both in the UK and abroad. Determined, and driven by the belief that challenges should be faced together, she brings a vision of creating community through peer-support.
