Description

Welcome to episode ten of our second season of the Mental Health Podcast from Unite/Mental Health Nurses Association.

Between 23 March and 4 July, 200,000 babies were born when lockdown was at its most restrictive. Unite in Health lead professional officer Dave Munday is joined by Sally Hogg (Head of Policy and Campaigning at the Parent Infant Foundation and Coordinator of the First 1001 Days Movement) to discuss a report that was launched on 5 August by the Parent Infant Foundation, Best Beginnings and Home Start, 'Babies in Lockdown'. The headline findings of the report were:
- COVID-19 has affected parents, babies and the services that support them in diverse ways
- Families already at risk of poorer outcomes have suffered the most
- The pandemic will cast a long shadow

- You can read the report here: https://babiesinlockdown.info
- Dave mentioned a Guardian podcast; 'After a decade of austerity: what now?' You can listen to the episode here: https://www.theguardian.com/news/audio/2020/jun/26/after-a-decade-of-austerity-what-now.
- We discussed Andrea Leadsom MP chairing a new group as the Government's Early Years Health Adviser. You can read more about that here: https://www.andrealeadsom.com/news/15072020/baby-best-start-hancock-leadsom
