I honestly didn’t intend to pick a film that so perfectly fit our politically wacky present; it was just a happy accident. For episode 6 of The Steal My Name podcast I’m looking at Kevin Smith’s Red State. Few films manage to capture the terror of religious fundamentalism like Smith’s Red State. From the demonization of the dreaded ‘other’, to the lengths that some are willing to go to enforce their beliefs on others. It’s a heavy talk but these are heavy times that we live in. My DS9 re-watch runs into a few familiar faces from Star Trek The Next Generation in episode 6, Q-Less, and I end it with a look at a book that gets more relevant with each passing year, Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaids Tale.
