“We will provide you with the skills and knowledge to tackle the kind of grand challenges of humankind!”
In this week’s episode of the JYU for YOU podcast, host Irfan is joined by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Science Mikko Mönkkönen. He shares with us his story of developing a passion for Ecology, his first attempt of joining JYU’s community as a student, what prompted him to do a PhD and what “tricks” did he use to make his courses more popular amongst students.
Mikko highlights different ways the Faculty, and scientists in general, can work to build bridges to society while also highlighting how a STEM degree, especially the new programs at JYU, enables students to have meaningful lives and contribute to their community. Finally, the two reflect on the many reasons why we should celebrate the Faculty’s 60th anniversary as well as what role staff, alumni and students play in shaping its future.
