In Genesis 29:1–30 we see Jacob arrive at a well, fall in love at first sight with Rachel, and then discover on his wedding day that the deceiver has himself been deceived. What looks like a family drama filled with trickery and heartbreak is actually a powerful display of God’s providence at work.
In this sermon, we trace how God uses even sin, rivalry, and disappointment to accomplish His purposes—bringing forth the twelve tribes of Israel, and ultimately the line of Christ through Leah, the unloved wife. Along the way we’ll consider what this story teaches us about repentance and faith, about marriage, and about Christ, the true Bridegroom who gave His life for His people.
If you’ve ever wondered how God can redeem brokenness, or how the gospel shines through even the messiest parts of Scripture, this passage is for you.
