Description

Bryan McDermand is an American Beach Volleyball and Indoor Coach, and a former indoor and open level sand player. He is also the founder and head coach of "Progression Beach Volleyball Club," an indoor sand volleyball club with a state-of-the-art facility in Chicago. His volleyball IQ and application has made him one of the most respected coaches and volleyball minds in his region and to some, the country. This no-frills, straight-to-the-point coach does very few things that do not have a purpose, and I always enjoy trying and failing to catch him off-guard.

Tune in, as we chat up post-tournament reactions from Coconut Beach (AVP Next Gold), appreciating player storylines, the irritating subject of hands and other rules as per regional guidelines, the improvement of the indoor beach facilities, the rise of Nuss/Kloth and Cory/Webber, owning up to mistakes and not straw-manning them, changing techniques for adults vs leaving them, why a coach does not need to have more experience than the pro he is coaching, "team cup" volleyball, the labor of pros having to play 5 beach matches in a day at Coconut, closed coaching vs training groups, the tidal wave called "Slaes," the perception of what you think someone is thinking vs reality, opinions changing when the facts do, how happy I am about being wrong about underestimating Sponcil and Claes, fair critique vs unfair, and MORE!
