For the latest episode of the DC House Grooves Meet the Locals Podcast, we've got a great one hour house music journey from local zacheser, recently heard opening for Hotel Garuda at Flash for the Nü Androids crew. Over to zacheser for a few words about the mix:
" I take pride in being the fat, weird, nerdy guy in the corner. It's been my aesthetic since I was in grade school: while the other kids were stoked about 'Toy Story,' I was pumped about 'Star Wars' or the horror section at Blockbuster; I chose Beth Ditto over Beyoncé because she was a fat kid like me who made music and gave zero fucks about what people thought of her; I wanted concert tickets instead of a car when I graduated college.
DJ'ing wasn't something I experimented in until after I saw LCD Soundsystem in 2010. That was my first experience of the power, or rather the catharsis, that dance music could have. LCD Soundsystem was unique in the sense that it was electronic music for the outsiders - the kids that wanted something pure and honest and without pretension. I realized this was something that was missing in my life and it became an active pursuit for me.
Fast forward to now, the feelings of acceptance, joy, and love amongst a sea of strangers from that show are what still drive me to this day. So naturally, as a DJ, I normally gravitate towards dance music that triggers some kind of elation in my soul whether it's disco or deep house or atmospheric techno. I want to play music that lets all the weirdos be weird and let the freak flag fly high; music that allows people to let go and be themselves.
For this mix, I assembled a menagerie of tracks I've been feeling recently ranging from uplifting house to 80's inspired electro to beats that have jacked my body every which way to Sunday. My favorite times to play are early morning and sunset because the boundaries are more about how you feel, where the vibe goes, and the journey you're taking with others. I wanted this mix to represent all of the feels I yearn for as an artist - and as the fat, weird, nerdy kid in the corner."
