Can't believe we've reached episode 65 of the Meet the Locals podcast! This episode features a blissful journey through big, classic 90s house from Nick Garcia, resident of new party Werk Ethic, which celebrates the very best of 90s house and techno. This mix is really talking our language! Some stone cold classics right here.
"First of all, this mix was extremely fun to record. Playing these older records feels a certain way, different than playing brand new records. It’s like you can feel the history in them. You imagine all the people that have had amazing moments dancing to them over the span of 10, 15, 20 years. That’s why I love Werk Ethic, the party that Ken Lazee and I do with U Street Music Hall. At once it’s a tribute, a history lesson, and a proper party. I tried to capture the feeling I bring to Werk Ethic in this mix and selected my favorite records from 90’s house and garage. I included some better known tracks like Frankie Knuckles’ timeless remix of “The Pressure” and Masters at Work’s collaboration with India “To Be In Love,” as well as some rarer tunes that you’d be hard pressed to find digital copies of. Because that’s the goal with Werk Ethic: entertain and educate. Bring the tunes that people know and love, and show them some new ones that might blow their mind. I hope you enjoy this mix and will come out to celebrate the great legacies of house and techno with us on February 23rd at U Street Music Hall!"
The second edition of Werk Ethic is at U Street Music Hall here in Washington DC on February 23. RSVP here: https://www.facebook.com/events/2017428288495532/
