You may be thinking, “how can you lead without people???” Well, technically, if there are no people following you, you're not leading. But having people follow you as a leader is not the same as needing people.
Needing people is a symptom of insecurity - you crave the validation of those around you. A leader can lead even when he's alone: you have to lead yourself first.
Lead yourself long enough, and people will want to know what you're doing.
