The kid scanning my groceries at Publix was dead on his feet. No hello, no smile, not even any eye contact.
He forgot to scan one of my items, which I pointed out to him. He spoke for the first time, apologizing and lamenting that he’d “been [at work] since 12.”
It was 4:15.
This is what happens when a company grows quickly, I thought. Trashy people get jobs because there’s no time to fish for better quality.
Knowing nothing else about this person, would you hire him to work for you?
Wait — you don’t even know his skills! He might be the best graphic designer alive, and just happens to be in the wrong job!! Are you sure?!?!
Attitude. It’s everything.
