I told him just that. His reply, “it’s like you didn’t!” told me how he, and many people, I came to learn, value staying safely on the porch of life.
You ever wonder why old people seem to enjoy life and live the most freely? It’s because they’ve come to terms with their inevitable deaths, and this is exactly what allows them to live so fully.
Anything we try to avoid, finds us and chases us down. The fear of being hunted is what slows us down. Your need to avoid loss precludes you from ever winning.
