Investing in upcoming trends, can lead to big profits, but requires getting two things right. The first is being able to identify an event that will create winners in the stock market. For example, the war between Russia and the Ukraine led to an embargo on the purchase of Russian oil. Prices shot up and so did oil stocks. The second is to not overpay. Investors who bought energy shares were able to profit, because oil and gas stocks were bargains at the time. So, even if you get the trend right, you can still lose money, if you overpay to participate. You need both to win.
