Description

Weight Stigma, what is it and how to does it affect people and the healthcare they receive? Listen as we get some answers from lived experience experts and advocates Jeni and Clare, along with lived experience expert and academic Dr Blake Lawrence from Curtin University, and dietician and PhD candidate Kristy Law from the George Institute. They talk us through the social and psychological determinants of overweight and obesity, and how this often leads on to weight stigma, which is alarmingly common among health professionals and often has a negative impact on both the quality of care and health outcomes for patients who experience it. We talk about what is currently being done to combat this serious public health issue, and how each of us has a role to play in spreading awareness and understanding of the problem to hopefully change attitudes and approaches to overweight and obesity in the community and healthcare settings.
