I am particularly proud of this work-despite it rough tone and slightly offbeat rhythm — simply because there are no electronic instruments used on this track of any kind. The closest thing being a synthesizer. I used a real grand piano, layered multiple electric guitar tracks, a bass guitar track and I believe two separate drum kit tracks, my goal being recording them with the mic in different spots to purposely give them a different sound. As I listen now, I think it has potential as something to try again and build upon! It was 5 years ago, but I recall it being quite a bit of work and a lot of moving around the house which also contributed to the different “room sounds” I got on the piano melody vs. the bass and synth tracks, for example. I recorded each track separately in GarageBand directly, using multitake function so I could jam out a bit and choose the best 8 bar of the bunch. I built the song that way. I played every instrument on the song, which I’ve done before and will do again, but it is rare. I prefer to collaborate when possible, but the one man band approach has always been appealing to me as well. Hope all that listen dig it for what it is!
