Timothy may have been tempted to grow weary in his vigorous pursuit of righteousness and godly living in the face of opposition from false teachers and worldly desires. Paul’s words were meant to serve as a reminder to Timothy that though the battle is fierce, it is still a “good fight” none-the-less. In doing so he petitions Timothy, and us, to keep our perspective focused on Jesus.
