Description

In 2023, the Solar research community lost one of its most prominent dignitaries, Dr. Frank Vignola. He was a physics professor at the University of Oregon and an activist for Peace, helped to ban field burning in Oregon and had been at the forefront of the Solar Energy field for the about 45 years.
He strongly believed in the future of Solar Energy and recognized the need for a dependable data base of solar radiation… to be a able to measure the Solar resource we have locally and regionally. He established the SOLAR ENERGY CENTER & SOLAR RADIATION MONITORING LABORATORY (SRML) at the U of O. He created a network of stations in the Pacific Northwest even in the face of lack of funding. He was known for this deep knowledge, hard work, perseverance and humility.

This interview is about Franks’s life work and is with two of his colleagues… retired University of Oregon architecture Professor John Reynolds and recently retired Oregon State Legislator, Paul Holvey.
