Text: Joshua 1:1-9
Opening Statement:
Why do we do we believe it is important to build the church tomorrow today? Because it’s all about the next generation!
Why is VBS Mission Critical to the church that has an evangelism crisis because one of the best methods of spreading the gospel is through “VBS”.
I) Building the Church of Tomorrow Today
Here is the background that points us to the importance of building the church of tomorrow today and how that VBS is Mission Critical to the Church. We know that the Word of God is the key to success in every aspect critical to life.
A) Their Futures
The future of every child begins with a strong foundation.
1) Their Salvation (Romans 10:17)
2) Their Strength (Psalm 119:9)
3) Their Success (Joshua 1:8)
B) Our Futures
But, not only their futures, but our futures are tied to the keeping of the Word of God. This was not just a word for Joshua; this was a word for the entire nation.
Principles for Success
1. Talk about Word Continually.
2. Think about Word Meditatively.
3. Take the Word Seriously.
4. Trust the Word Completely.
II) Why VBS is Mission Critical
VBS encompasses all three of our mission goals, Family ministry, Evangelism and Discipleship. Here are four reasons VBS is critical to the mission of our church.
1) VBS is about Jesus!
VBS provides the dual purpose of introducing participant to Jesus Christ and providing valuable spiritual growth of more kids than ever.
Remember it’s the message of Jesus Christ that makes the difference.
2) VBS attracts People.
The reason VBS remains attractional and so important is because it gives churches the opportunity to impact lives for eternity as kids, teens, and adults come to know the saving power of Jesus Christ.
3) VBS energizes the Church.
We know VBS attracts people from the community, but what is it about VBS that gets an army of church members out of their seats and to hot-glue googly eyes on projects or to help in leading wacky games?
VBS creates energy in the local church because at the center of all the fun and craziness is the truth of God’s Word.
4) VBS mobilizes Christians.
Not only does VBS energize a congregation, it mobilizes Christians to reach it’s community with the gospel.
In order for VBS to be a true mobilizer, we must accept the responsibility that VBS is a total church endeavor.

These are the reasons why VBS is Mission Critical to Midway’s vision of building the church of tomorrow today!
We are calling for all hands, on deck as we set sail for Mystery Island on July 18-22.
