There are so many who want to offer their advice on raising children. So, where DO we turn for solid advice? The best place to turn is the Word of God. God understands the dynamics of the family and the needs of young people better than any human being. His wisdom is timeless and to the point.
However, as I read this verse, I would have to admit it sounds easier than it really is. That is why I have come today not with a how to book for dad’s but with my toolbox filled with some tools that will help you to be better dads.
I) Adjustable Wrench
This adjustable wrench helps us to see that fathers must be flexible and adaptable to any situation that arises.
Eph. 6:4 "And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord."
Colossians 3:21 "Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged."
II) Level
This level reminds us to the fact that Fathers must be fair and level-headed. Prov. 20:7 "The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him."
III) Staple Gun and Clamp
These two items are different ways to show how Fathers must be able to hold things together.
Ephes. 5:31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
Ephes. 6:1-4 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. [2] Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) [3] That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. [4] And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
IV) Shop Towels
Hey everyone, here is a news flash for you, Father’s are not perfect. We all must be ready to clean up the messes we sometimes make. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
V) Extension Cord
Fathers must be able to stretch and connect with their families.
Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
VI) Cologne
Dads it never hurts to smell good for mom every now and again.
Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; One of the best things a Dad can give his children is to love their mother.
VII) Pliers
Fathers must be able to hold on when everyone else is losing their grip.
Prov. 3:5-7 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
VIII) Rubber mallet
Fathers must be able to do some persuasion without doing damage.
Titus 3:1-2 "Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men."
IX) Instruction Book or better know as the Bible
I believe it is a must to consult the instruction book before any work begins.
Kids this book not only speaks to the parents but a few words for you as well. Prov. 4:1 "Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding". Prov. 5:7 "Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth." Prov. 1:8 "My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:" Prov. 4:1 "Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding."
