Simon Peacock is a geology professor in the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at UBC. Prof. Peacock joined UBC in 2006 and served as the Dean of the Faculty of Science from 2006 to 2018. He earned BS and MS degrees in Geology from MIT (1981) and a PhD in Geology from UCLA (1985). From 1985 to 2006, he was a geology professor and administrator at Arizona State University. Prof. Peacock’s research focuses on understanding earthquakes and mountain-building processes. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and has published more than 60 articles in peer-reviewed journals including Science, Nature, and Geology.
