2-1-2023 Passed Ball Show. John spends this program talking about the recent coaching hires of Demeco Ryans and Sean Payton by the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos, respectively. John likes the idea of Ryans in Houston with his belief that he can develop a young team. He also adds that the hiring might provide an extra lifeline for General Manager Nick Caserio, whom John believes has done a poor job in his role. John questions how much of the Broncos struggles were because of Natahniel Hackett, and how much they were because of the declining Russell Wilson. If there is somebody that can get Denver’s offense back on track, he believes in Payton and his offensive football acumen. John then talks about the football New York Giants and their 2016 decision to bench all time Giants QB and consecutive games played record holder Eli Manning in favor of Geno Smith. From a pure football standpoint, John questions whether the Giants, then Head Coach Ben McAdoo, and then General Manager Jerry Reese knew about Geno’s ability in a similar way to how Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks knew. Among “This Date in Sports History,” John mentions Jim Thorpe, Curly Lambeau, Monte Irvin, Zack Wheat, and Barry Bonds.
