Description

Maureen Pollard interviews Rebecca about her experience of losing her father, who she describes as her best friend during her adult years. They discuss how Rebecca used denial as a protective measure, and deferred her feelings whenever there was something she had to do or decisions to be made. Rebecca talks about how she stumbled trying to maintain other relationships while grieving: "A big part of what I had to make sure I didn't do, when we were in the midst of this terrible tragedy, was lose the relationships of the people around me because I was too lost in my own grief, or too angry and letting that anger spill out onto the wrong person". They also discuss how going back to work immediately after her father's death was actually helpful for Rebecca; how audio books were also a great distraction for her from her grief; and how she took up comedy as a way of honouring her father, who always told her she should be a comedian.
