Kati Ellis of Happy Hands Education Center discusses how to respond to deaf and non-hearing kids and how they give them hope. Happy Hands Education Center provides early education to deaf and non-hearing kids. They take 6 weeks old up to 6 years old. For them, it is important to have an early education because the brainwaves of children those ages are developing and that they need early access to communication to build that brain waves and for them not to fall behind their grading peers when entering their 1st grade. As they teach the deaf and non-hearing kids how to communicate, they are also supporting them emotionally. Happy Hands don’t just rely on sign language. They try to show the children access to every form of language and communication possible including technology. In Happy Hands, they are not just teaching the kids but also they are helping the parents how to communicate with them. There are sign language classes that are offered to parents, their staff and anyone who wants to learn. Having a member of the family with this kind of impairment is difficult. They need emotional support. That’s why Happy Hands helps the parents or family in any way possible. Their overall goal is to give the family hope.
