The second value to be recovered and embraced by Kingdom citizens is the value of guarding against sin, as presented in Matthew 18:5-9. Just as humility is valuable to maintaining harmonious relationships amongst believers, so is guarding against sin. Sin damages and destroys one’s relationship with God and with others. It creates, amongst other things, bitterness, distrust, guilt, and hostility between fellow believers. As such, Jesus enunciates that believers must guard themselves from sin and from causing others to sin.
