Once a professional baseball player, Emma Flately now works as a buyer’s agent for Universal Buyers Agents and has started a property management business with its owner.
Emma tells Buyer’s Agent Institute founder Ben Handler she’s always loved property and met her personal goal of buying her first property before she turned 21. She renovated and sold that property and is now busy renovating her second property, which she wants to keep as an investment.
Emma feels she has an edge as a buyer’s agent, because she used to be a sales agent and so understands how they work.
Emma finds being a buyer’s agent more fulfilling than being a real estate agent, because she has a better relationship with her clients, and they come to her for advice. She also finds the work atmosphere is better because at Universal Buyers Agents they have cooperative rather than competing relationships.
Buyer’s and sales agents want the same outcomes, says Emma. So although some real estate agents still feel threatened by buyer’s agents, there’s enough business for both.
Emma feels you must love property to be a buyer's agent because you're going to work odd hours, but you can still maintain a work-life balance.
