"In a year in which the European techno bubble sounded a bit like trance, I found myself drawn to slower grooves and the machine funk of Detroit and Midwest America. It was genuinely fun to play music infused with funk, albeit twisted funk mutations of cosmic groovers, old-school gems and warehouse thumpers. Dance-floors responded with amazing energy, and party music with swing was the flavour of the year for me.
