Have you ever wondered what that thing called the ROSARY is REALLY all about, and whether or not we’re ACTUALLY supposed to pray it? SAME. I answer these questions and more in today’s episode, which is actually the start of a special, five-part video series on this particular prayer!
This series is inspired, first, by the fact that this month (May!) is traditionally dedicated to Our Lady. Secondly, the feast of Our Lady of Fatima falls during this month, which recalls the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to three shepherd children in Portugal on the 13th of each month from May to October in 1917. Each time she appeared to them, Mary asked that they pray the Rosary: specifically, that they pray it every day. This message wasn’t simply for them, however; it was something our Mother asked them to share with the entire world! Eventually, the Blessed Mother revealed to one of the children, Lucia, when she was older that the world should observe the “Five First Saturdays” devotion. (I explain this devotion in-depth in the episode.)
With this in mind, I thought it was fitting to do this five-part series on each Saturday of this month; this first episode simply explains HOW TO pray the Rosary and WHY we should, and the following four weeks will be the praying of the Rosary itself (starting with the Joyful Mysteries on the 9th, then the Luminous on the 16th, the Sorrowful on the 23rd, and lastly, the Glorious on the 30th).
