Description

Entering new territories of the physical realm, ANE returns with an EP and accompanying remix collection from Crosspolar. Te Bristol-based artist harnesses the once hyperreal aesthetics of computer simulations from the 90s to early 00s in dreamlike odes to distorted cyberspace memories. Tis release will see a limited edition of floppy disk packs containing two recycled disks, one of originals and one of variations. Using Unreal Engine to construct a cold landscape the multi-disciplinarian has also created an accompanying video for the climactic title track.
An upbringing in Finland during the 90s serves as a catalyst for the inspirations for these sprawling, cinematic ambient tracks. Repurposed rompler instruments and high sheen sound design represent lost dreams of the future. Sugar sweet rave euphoria is met with icy desolation. Crosspolar plunders his childhood fascinations to create this not so uncanny valley: keygen music, click-to-discover online worlds, 90s television, and turn of the millennium tech. Tese tracks accelerate at blistering pace whilst always looking backwards.
Opener 1oK Lux welcomes the listener with gleams of artificial sunlight in the form of grime-meets-post-vaporwave arps. New Vistas is hypnagogic keygen music with a foreboding orchestral core. Title track Simulacra sees Crosspolar accessing cloudy recollections of 90s information television theme scores, reproduced and rehashed through the lens of sprawling, sci-fi informed ambient. Te accompanying remix package features 4 variations including a Sangam version in which the artist dials up Simulacra’s desolation and a Tugwidow remix, complimenting the uplifing rave sequences of 10K Lux with choppy, dancefloor-ready breaks.
