Brisbane based producer Benedict Clarke aka. NORA DRUM makes his debut with ‘DISTANCE’ - a textural four track collection that presents a unique approach to atmospheric left-field club and ambient music. Amid some clear influences of beat focused genres such as garage and UK left-field techno, Clarke displays a clear strength for constructing raw and emotive atmospheres. ‘DISTANCE’s lead track ‘NOSEBLEED’ and follow up ‘WATCH’ exhibit some dark texture-filled ambiences driven by an array of organic two-step percussive rhythms. Following these two rather experimental dance cuts, Clarke presents the second half of this release with two powerful ambient pieces. Exploring some deep emotive tones and raw synthetic sound design, ‘DISTANCE’s epic final cuts ’AREA 6’ and title track ‘DISTANCE’ push some harsh yet gracefully warped soundtrack styled textures, similar to the likes of Tim Hecker and Rafael Anton Irisarri. NORA DRUM’s overall diverse experimentation with organic rhythm and atmospheric texture on ’DISTANCE’ provides a deep personal headphone listening perfect for isolation.
