While in Israel I heard a member of the Kibbutz Asdot Ya’ako Ichod tell us about being a Kibbutz nick. My travel group, Road Scholar, heard him speak while we stayed at a hotel owned by the Kibbutz. The hotel, Nos Ginossar, is located beside the Sea of Galilee. This recording will provide listeners with some insight into the modern Israeli Kibbutz movement. Johnathan was born in the Kibbutz, so he is a second-generation Kibbutz nick who is raising the third generation. Lifestyles and choices are much different than the when he was born. Times have been much bleaker, even to the point of Kibbutz’s declaring bankruptcy. But, times are much better, Kibbutz membership is on the rise.
