100 years ago the meeker herald wrote “We have finally located the meanest man in town. He stumbled upon a fine large “cache” of the stuff that makes things look bright, in the county road machinery building, last Sunday evening, but instead of putting a select few of his friends “next” as he should have done, goes and tells the wrong people, with the result that the exhilarating fluid fell into alien hands, as it were.”

For more enigmas, or to prove that the more things change, the more they stay the same, take a gander at the Day’s Gone By section, somewhere in the paper. Where you ask?

You’re just gon’ have ta find out by lookin’ at every single page…maybe you’ll even stumble across some like….news….or whatever. Just stuff going on, ion your general vicinity, funded by your tax dollars….not that any of that matters.

One hundred-years after the historic Colorado River Compact allocated 15 million acre feet of water between seven states in the arid west, the situation has grown dire. On June 15, US Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Camille Touton issued a call to action for all seven states in the 1922 Compact to come up with a plan to save 2-4 million acre feet of water.

In response, the upper basin states, made up of Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado created a 5 point plan, which among other things, implores lower basin states to take meaningful action to address their overuse of and depletions of Lake Mead and Lake Powell.

That’s Rebecca (Becky) Mitchell, Director of the Colorado Water Conservation Board Upper Colorado River commissioner, speaking at the CLUB 20 policy meeting in Rangely last month.
