There are different types of Fico scores depending on the context. The credit score that comes from your credit card is usually close to your actual score. There are certain things that people do that can hurt your credit - closing a revolving account (credit card) is almost never good, taking savings to pay off a installment loan (car or student loan), pay off collection - almost never does a mortgage company tell you to pay this off, in the short run it is not good but in the long run it is. Credit repair should last about 6 months.
