The American public owns all federal public lands, including National Parks, National Forests, Wilderness areas, wild and scenic rivers, and wildlife preserves. However, there have been some proposals to shift ownership to States. We talked with representatives from the Forest Service and Wilderness Society about the implications surrounding this debate.
